The graphic artist Daniel Chodowiecki (1726–1801) was one of the best-known artists of his time. To mark the 300th anniversary of his birth, this exhibition focuses not only on his masterpieces, but also on the women in his circle, who were long overlooked. ![Suzette Henry: Bildnis Daniel Chodowiecki, um 1795 (Öl auf Leinwand) ](https://cdn.berlin.museum/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/chodowiecki-22-1-906x1160-1-234x300.jpg) On display are works by his daughters and female pupils, who fought to carve out a place for themselves in the art world around 1800 – at a time when women had very few opportunities to pursue artistic careers. As their art teacher, Daniel Chodowiecki gave them the freedom to express their creativity. A regular academic art exhibition also offered them the chance to present their works to the public. Through drawings and prints, the exhibition tells a story of talent, training and perseverance.
