Nikolai Music on Fridays
In “Organ Plus”, the organ enters into an open dialogue with live electronics, percussion and voices. The result is a series of new sonic landscapes and unexpected musical encounters. Created especially for this concert format, students from the “Hanns Eisler” Academy of Music develop electroacoustic works that expand the organ’s expressive possibilities and explore new ways of listening. The concerts reveal the instrument in a contemporary and experimental context.

About the Concert Series
From October 2026 to April 2027, a concert programme accompanies Annika Kahrs’ sound installation Chorus. The programme is curated by Beate Tast-Kasper from the Berlin Museum.
Part of the programme is the concert series “Nikolai-Musik am Freitag: Manuale des Jetzt”. Curated by composer and organist Alexander Moosbrugger, it presents the organ as an instrument of the present day. The title refers to the manual, the keyboard of an organ that is played by hand. Through changing thematic focuses, the concerts connect contemporary music with Berlin’s urban and intellectual history. They engage with current social issues and highlight the organ as a living instrument of our time.
During live programmes and events, the sound installation “Chorus” will not be audible.

Admission to the concert is free for anyone holding a Ukrainian passport, a Ukrainian residence permit or a valid student ID card from a Ukrainian university and a residence permit in Germany, as well as for anyone holding an electronic residence permit (eAT).

You can experience the complete sound installation Monday to Friday between 12 noon and 6 pm, starting on the hour. In addition, the installation can be heard on Thursday evenings and at weekends, albeit without the carillon.
