Thanks to the commitment of many people and organisations, we are able to preserve Berlin’s past for the future. Find out here how you can help us with this.

Since its beginnings, the Berlin Museum has been supported by dedicated individuals. Many exhibitions, educational programmes and new acquisitions for our collection are only made possible through donations, gifts and funding. Friends’ associations and foundations also help to keep our venues and collections thriving. There are many ways to support the Berlin Museum. We look forward to hearing from you!

Donations & Gifts

Donations and gifts from members of the public have helped to build up the Berlin Museum’s collections and continue to expand them to this day. Many of the approximately 4.5 million objects come from private collections and thus preserve the city’s history. Financial donations also help us to carry out important projects. They enable us to acquire, restore and preserve objects in our collections, as well as to organise exhibitions, events and educational programmes. We launch targeted fundraising appeals for specific projects. We are grateful for any support!

Please mark your bank transfer as a donation. If you would like a donation receipt – as is standard practice for donations of 200 euros or more – please let us know by emailing fundraising@berlin.museum. Please be sure to include your address. To claim small donations of up to 200 euros against tax, a proof of payment – such as a copy of your bank statement – is sufficient under Section 50(2) of the Income Tax Implementation Regulation (EStDV).


The Berlin Museum has always been collecting artefacts that reflect the city in all its facets – from everyday life to politics, the economy and science, right through to art and culture. We are currently looking in particular for objects relating to topics that are as yet under-represented in our collection:

  • urban ecology
  • urban and social open spaces
  • mobility
  • migration
  • national socialism
  • colonial traces
  • entertainment culture

Estates

As well as making donations and gifts during your lifetime, you can also include the Berlin Museum in your will. By leaving a bequest or making a donation in your will, you can support the museum’s work in the long term – whether for a specific purpose or without a designated cause. In this way, you’ll be helping to preserve Berlin’s cultural heritage. If you have any questions or would like some advice, please feel free to get in touch with us.

Promotion & Cooperation

The Berlin Museum is funded by the State of Berlin. However, we can only carry out many of our projects with additional support. Charities, funding schemes and corporate partnerships help us to further develop our exhibitions, research, educational programmes, collections and digitisation projects. Support Association

Several support associations help to fund the work of the Berlin Museum. In addition to the Association of Friends and Supporters of the Berlin Museum e. V., three other associations are dedicated to supporting individual museums and collections. They help to organise exhibitions, events and educational programmes, and to acquire new items for the collection. In doing so, their members make an important contribution to Berlin’s cultural heritage. Why not get involved and become a member of a support association?

Foundations

Since its beginnings, the Berlin Museum has been closely linked to the commitment of the people of Berlin. Many of its collections originate from donations and personal estates. Several independent and non-independent foundations continue to uphold this commitment to this day. They manage significant collections or support the work of the Berlin Museum in various areas.
