The organ loft in the Nikolaikirche Museum

Since the Middle Ages, St. Nicholas’ Church has been a defining feature of the Nikolaiviertel district and the centre of Berlin: once a place of worship, now a museum of church, architectural and urban history.

After work concert to mark the start of the weekend, featuring organ music by historical female composers in Berlin’s oldest surviving church building.

Mio Kuriyama began playing the organ at the age of 15 at a girls’ school. She went on to study at the Tokyo University of the Arts. During her studies, she won numerous prizes and was nominated to perform at the Japanese Organists’ Society’s graduation concert. In 2023, she performed as a soloist with the Geidai Philharmonia Orchestra Tokyo and received an award for this performance. This afternoon, she will perform works by Florence Price (1887–1953), including ‘Cantilena’ and ‘Caprice’.
