Berlin comes first

Stadtmuseum Berlin becomes Berlin Museum

What matters to us today

Following the attack at Berlin’s Christopher Street Day on 25 July 2026, our thoughts are with the person who lost their life, those who were injured, and their families, friends and loved ones. We stand in solidarity with the queer community and with everyone working towards a free, open and supportive Berlin.

The launch of our new name on 27 July 2026 has been planned for a long time. Especially at a moment like this, we want to reaffirm what Berlin Museum stands for: an open, free and diverse urban society.

Berlin is more than just a place to us. The city is the starting point for everything we do.

At our sites across the city, we tell stories about Berlin – about the people, places and moments that have shaped it.

You may already have come across us: at a museum festival, an exhibition on Berlin’s history or a concert at the Nikolaikirche. Perhaps you discovered something new with us. Or perhaps you still remember a visit that stayed with you.

All these experiences belong to Berlin Museum. They are built on a collection of millions of objects relating to Berlin’s history, alongside a wide range of projects, learning programmes, events and exhibitions.

For more than 30 years, our museums have worked together under one roof. In fact, our shared history goes back more than 150 years. Now we are making visible what has long belonged together.

New name, new brand identity

With our new name comes a new visual identity. Our colours, logos and typefaces reflect the many stories and perspectives that make up Berlin. At the same time, the design draws on elements of the city’s history. Some of the typefaces echo the signage of the Deutsche Oper underground station, while others reference the distinctive typography of Karl-Marx-Allee.

From summer 2026, you will begin to see Berlin Museum appearing across the city, at our sites and on our digital channels. Not everything will change overnight. Signs, websites, brochures and many other materials will be updated step by step.

You can watch as Stadtmuseum Berlin becomes Berlin Museum.

And perhaps you will discover us in a new way, too.
